In this guide
We collect as little as we can. Reading this site doesn't need an account, the site sets no cookies, and our tools keep your answers in your own browser. We don't run ads, use advertising trackers, or sell or share personal information for advertising. We never ask for health information. If you give us your email or ask to be introduced to a partner, we use that only for the reason you gave it to us.
Who we are
East&Well is run by Joe Yang, based in Toronto, Canada. In this policy, "we" means East&Well. For anything about privacy, write to hello@eastandwell.com. We are responsible for the personal information described here.
What we collect, and why
| When you | What we collect | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Read a page | Nothing that identifies you is stored by us. Our web host and our font provider receive standard technical information, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver the page. | To show you the page and keep the site secure |
| Use the checkup guide or the week planner | Nothing. Your answers stay in your browser and are never sent to us or anyone else. A calendar file you download is made on your own device. | – |
| Press "Listen" on a phrase | Nothing. Your browser speaks the phrase itself. Some browsers send the phrase to their own speech service to say it. | – |
| Ask to plan a checkup | Your name, email address, the city you're interested in and when you'd like to travel | To write back to you and, when introductions open, to introduce you to one partner you agree to |
| Email us | Your email address and what you write | To reply to you |
How the Plan a checkup form reaches us. When you press Send, your browser sends what you typed to Web3Forms, a form service that emails it to our inbox. Web3Forms handles it only on our behalf. It checks each form for spam with CleanTalk and Akismet, which receive your IP address and email address, and its policy says it keeps a copy of each form for no more than three years. Our address, hello@eastandwell.com, is forwarded by our domain registrar, Porkbun, to a Google Gmail mailbox.
What we don't collect
- Health information. Our forms don't ask about symptoms, conditions, medications or test results, and we don't collect consumer health data as defined by laws such as Washington's My Health My Data Act. Please don't send us that kind of information. If you need medical advice, talk to your doctor.
- Payment information. You don't pay us anything, so we don't take card details.
- Advertising data. We don't use advertising cookies, tracking pixels or data brokers.
Cookies and analytics
This site sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. We don't use analytics. If we add analytics later, we'll use a privacy-friendly service that doesn't use cookies or identify individual visitors, and we'll update this page first.
The site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when a page loads. See Google's privacy policy.
Who we share information with
- Service providers that run parts of the site for us: our web host, GitHub Pages (GitHub's privacy statement), our font provider, Google Fonts; our form service, Web3Forms, and the spam checkers it uses; and our email providers, Porkbun and Google. They may use your information only to provide their service.
- One partner, only if you ask. If you request an introduction, we share your name, email, the city you chose and your timing with the one named partner you agreed to, and nothing else. That partner then handles your trip under its own privacy policy.
- When the law requires it, for example in response to a valid legal order.
We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We honor Global Privacy Control signals, although there is nothing for them to switch off.
How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Requests to plan a checkup, and records of introductions | 24 months after your last contact with us, so we can confirm referral records with partners, then deleted |
| Emails you send us | As long as we need to answer you, and no more than 24 months |
Where it's stored, and how we protect it
Our service providers may store information in the United States, Canada, India or other countries. When information moves across borders, we rely on the safeguards the law allows, such as standard contractual clauses or the provider's certifications. If you're in mainland China, sending us a form or an email means your information is transferred to and stored outside China; please send it only if you agree to that.
We keep as little as we can, the whole site is served over an encrypted connection, and only we and the provider concerned can reach what you send. If a breach affects your information, we'll tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Your rights, wherever you live
Everyone can ask us to:
- see the personal information we hold about you, and get a copy in a common format;
- correct it if it's wrong;
- delete it;
- stop or limit how we use it, or object to a use;
- withdraw your consent, for example to an introduction that hasn't been made yet, or to hearing from us when introductions open.
Write to hello@eastandwell.com. We'll reply within 30 days and won't treat you differently for asking. We may need to confirm it's you first. Someone you authorize can ask for you.
These rights follow the strongest of the laws that may apply to you, including Canada's PIPEDA, the GDPR in the European Union and the UK GDPR, US state privacy laws such as California's CCPA and Washington's My Health My Data Act, and China's Personal Information Protection Law. In the European Union and the UK, we use your information because you consent (when you ask us to write back or to introduce you to a partner) or because we have a legitimate interest in answering you and keeping the site secure.
If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to your local privacy regulator: in Canada, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada; in the European Union or the UK, your national data protection authority; in California, the California Privacy Protection Agency.
We don't make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Children
This site is meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us information, write to us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll tell you by email first.
